History
A Brief History of The Maryland Society of Pathologists
The Maryland Society of Pathologists was formed in 1948, when a small group of pathologists from Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland came together to create a professional organization to bring their community together. The group initially focused on education, holding annual meetings where pathologists could discuss new discoveries and techniques in the field.
MSP grew over the years and began taking on a more active role in shaping the healthcare landscape in Maryland. During these years, MSP’s meetings became the go-to events for Maryland pathologists to network, learn, and stay updated on the latest developments.
Today, the Maryland Society of Pathologists remains an important part of the medical community, continuing to support its members through advocacy, education, and professional development. They focus on modern challenges, while still upholding the values that have guided the society’s support for Maryland pathologists and advancing the field of pathology for better patient care.
In 2024, the society restructured to include more member benefits, including a mentorship program to help residents, fellows and junior faculty connect with mentors in all specialties and practice types. They invited the DC pathologists to be full members with all the member benefits provided to Maryland members.
